What is Soapberry?

Soapberry is a cherry-like fruit which contains saponin - a gentle natural cleanser. The berry is made up of a single, relatively large seed, which is surrounded by a layer of fruit pulp, which is where the saponin is contained. The soapberry fruit has been used for many thousands of years as a gentle cleanser for the washing of fine silks, for hair care and personal hygiene.

What is the wipe material made from?

The material that we use to make WaterWipes with Soapberry is made using a blend of 80% Polyester and 20% Viscose. Viscose comes from wood so its 100% natural and biodegradable, which makes 20% of our wipe material biodegradable. We are currently working on making our wipes 100% biodegradable - and have a commitment to do this by the end of 2020. At present, as we are not 100% biodegradable, you will see the non-flushable symbol on all of our packs.

Skincare scientists around the world agree our wipes are safe to use on even the most sensitive skin, however, because no two individual’s skin is the same you should always check with your doctor or healthcare professional. Soapberry fruit comes from the soap nut tree. Soapberry or soap nut are the same ingredients, just with different names. Soapberry does not contain peanut or tree nut (walnut, almond, hazelnut, cashew, pistachio and brazil). Please let me assure you that WaterWipes are soy-free, peanut-free, nut-free and legume-free.

At WaterWipes we pride ourselves on making the world’s purest baby wipe for newborn and sensitive skin. We fully understand that we also have responsibility to help protect the planet your little one will inherit. We previously made a commitment to having a 100% biodegradable solution without compromising on the purity of our product in 2020. Unfortunately the COVID-19 situation has caused many issues with supply chains due to the unprecedented demands placed on them. Because of this, we’re sadly not going to be able to bring our customers biodegradable wipes until the beginning of 2021. We are disappointed that we can’t bring you a sustainable option sooner, but we will continue to work closely with our suppliers during these unprecedented times, so you and your little ones can enjoy our biodegradable WaterWipes as soon as possible.The terms flushable and biodegradable are often used interchangeably, but they are very different. No wipes, including biodegradable wipes, should be flushed. Often, even flushable wipes take time to break down in our sewer systems. Disposing of wipes with the household rubbish is the best way to help protect our environment.

The Soapberry fruit produces a range of natural cleansers called ‘saponins’. This property helps water to dissolve dirt and remove it from surfaces so that it can be rinsed away. It is a natural cleanser that has been used for hundreds of years, but it is not as strong or aggressive as purpose-designed heavy duty synthetic soaps which can leave your skin dry.That’s why our new WaterWipes with Soapberry are more effective at cleaning. They are also perfectly safe for cleaning your baby’s face and hands, as well as their bottoms as they are designed to be gentle on baby’s skin. WaterWipes with Soapberry is also approved by Allergy UK as well as awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance.

Are they safe for use all over the body?

WaterWipes with Soapberry are made using 99.9% water with a drop of Fruit and Soapberry extract. They are perfectly safe for washing your babies face and hands as they are designed to be gentle on baby’s skin. However, please bear in mind that because WaterWipes with Soapberry are so pure, they will not remove any germs. Cleaning Eye Area:They are perfectly safe for washing your babies face, including the surrounding eye area. That said, we do not recommend using them directly on the eye as this can often be a particularly sensitive area. Cleaning Dummies / Pacifiers:They are perfectly safe for cleaning dummies/pacifiers and teething toys.
